| [rant] I've been playing UrT for about 4 years, I play about 3 hours a day 3-5 days a week, I have basically reached a point of boredom and reached my climax of skill. I reflect on how I play, how often I play, and where I play. I play a lot of ts - pugbot included, play far too much, and play on generally well skilled servers. My biggest issue is, that no matter what tips I get, no matter who I learn from, no matter what I do, I seem to be getting worse. I am one of the worst players I know, probably 5th on that list (1 being the worst). I either need some decent tips that will help me get a decent skill level in a time less than another 4 years, or I just need to quit UrT. I really hate the fact that I get raped by players who have been playing for months, then rape players who are far more experienced than me, though it seems I get the raping more often then not. We scrim, I'm always in last place. I have a very strategic thought process, but I just can't apply it, I can't apply any of the tips I've been given over the years, I'm tired of looking like an idiot, I'm tired of my clan mates ragging on me because I suck, I'm tired of being criticized by random players who suck even more for the things I mess up on. [/rant]
Now after I've said all that.....whatta rant......
I know its an easy game, I know there are a lot of patches, a lot of tuts, a lot of good demos and videos and custom/optimized builds out there that are meant to help, but I can't get my skill level up, I can't wrap my head around what I see, and I'm tired of feeling like I'm as worthless in game as I am when it comes to fixing a car. Someone please give me some help.

| You're what 17? Cut the drama bro. If it's a game you like to play. You play. It doesn't matter if you suck or not. When I was 17 I played too much q3a. I spent my 20's behind bars. When I got out, urbanterror was like a dream come true. It's everything I want from a fps. I'm 28 now, I have no life. I go to school full time and play urt on the weekends. I suck. As far as your strategic abilities go -- all I can say is you have them, but they won't actually come into play until you get older. When you get to be near your 30's, your brain is alot different. I call it savant-syndrome In your teens, you are really on-top of your game. But believe it or not, your APPLIED strategic abilities and reaction times are far better when you get older. That's why there's some people in urt who are freaking monsters and most of them are my age. If you don't want to play anymore that's up to you. Just don't switch to WoW -- that's mad lame. Stop thinking about tips and tricks and special clients to use and all that crap and just play. But do please keep this tip in mind (lol, didn't I just say ignore tips?): Your brain's muscle memory and strategic abilities only develop in your sleep. I play drums, so I know all kinds of wierd shit like this. Think of it this way -- If i want to be able to play faster, I practice by playing something simple as fast as i can smoothly for about 4 minutes straight. then I take a break for a minute and do it again a few times. Then I don't play drums for the rest of the day. Sounds really stupid right? So I tried the same thing with urt. I suck at sr8. So what I do is play on sr8-only servers for about 10 minutes whenever I can fit it in. No more than that. I have noticed that my sr8 skills are improving faster than when I first started playing urt and spent like 3 hours on sr8-only and just kept getting pissed off that I can't snipe. If you're serious about urt and you enjoy playing it. The best advise I can give you is don't quit. Just cut back on your hours. 3 hours/day is pretty heavy. I've gone all day for 3 days straight and I just get burned out and I feel like I'm not getting anywhere. But during the week when I'm busy with school: monday I suck, tuesday is meh, wednesday is like ok, thursday and friday i fucking RAPE. weekends I'm back to sucking. There's all kinds of pro tips for having a good client/network/etc. But none of that stuff matters if you're playing so much you burn yourself out. | |

| I reached a similar situation as you like 3-4 years ago. A. quit playing for some time B. find a new gametype and a new style of play, and limit yourself to playing with only secondaries, or g36 on semi, etc (find new ways to play the game) | |

| Totally agree with that. I like jumping even though I suck and have been stuck on Path of the Jumper 3 for like 6 months.
I met a guy who uses psg as an assault weapon. He is like quickscope king. Met another who times nades so well he can literally throw them in your face every time. Then there was a guy who plays UMP+silencer+laser on Spam mode only. (really cool combination when I tried it)

| I'm trying new things when I do play, I played for about 1.5 hours total today, played a ctf game on Z best of Z best earlier on abbey and had my best ctf game ever. My plan is to limit my game play to 5 hours a week (if that), unless we have a scrim or something. I've tried different weapon combos and different servers and I did play a bit better when I was really just chilling out and trying to have fun.
The idea of quitting has kinda been replaced by the idea of just relaxing and having fun more often then actually trying to be good, just kinda letting shit happen rather then making it happen.

| You can't always make shit happen. Most things in life just happen. Just do what you do. | |

| to rageborn and whoever else dont listen to these guys suggesting less playing urt will somehow make u better... sure once u reach a comfortable level of experience/skill u dont need to keep practicing near as much, but right now u r saying u want to get better. i wouldnt say if u play x amount of time u will get x amount better... its how/what u learn from mistakes and successes from yourself and others that help determine this. i also suggest targeting specific areas in your game u want to get better at. for example u could say "im just too slow" ... well if u want to get faster, simply practice the things that can get u to the level u desire (jump maps, flagrunning in ctf pubs/scrims, watching "fast" players demos) and make the necessary adjustments as u go. aim, spread, tactics, nades, etc can all be made better by focusing on the specific area u want to improve. another example i use is how u may get stuck on a jump for 6 months like expectrus said earlier. instead of simple trial and error which can go really slow starting out, find someone that has "been there/done that" and is willing to help. they may not only get u through that jump, but the whole map and perhaps other maps. its a quicker way of a to b. the same can be applied to gunning/sniping- im sure if tarquin spent time with u on sr8 u would be atleast somewhat closer to his level sooner than by trial/error. i do however suggest learning auto way before sr8... sr8s are rarely used in this game on a competitive level. urt is more about speed, auto hits, tactics, timing, and teamwork than sr8 shots (also if someone is good with an auto they will be at least solid with an sr8... guaranteed) and ya over time, u will get better even if u dont really fix the main hindrances that hold u back. experience itself will make u better. however from what ive read, u want to be far better than average, and that takes more dedication... not less dedication. all in all it is ok to back away from the game if u start to feel stressed. there are numerous factors to better yourself that i can go over with u if u would still like weeeeeeee my first post here! anyway rageborn check your pms | |

| You know hes told me about him watching demos of people, I personally got better from watching A LOT from tarq and lots of other iCu members. I was also taken in by iCu and trained by them A LOT. And I think r4g3 might consider the same thing.
He just never could watch demos and get it, also flag running for speed/jumping doesnt help much if he doesnt play CTF.. In Team Survivor yes you need to stay alive but it doesnt really matter how well you can jump its just how long you can last and not waste all your ammo.

| Well Cope, I've started playing ctf and I have been watching demos and things over and over again, I'm starting to see what I do wrong in my demos and see what is done right in other's demos.
I do fairly decently in ctf, i actually get over half my points from kills and protecting rather than capturing. I've made some improvements and I'm playing better than I have been previously, I seem to have my sensitivity where it needs to be, my aim (for the most part) is deadly, its just my jumping and reaction time that needs work right now, CTF is helping that a lot.
I'm also getting 35-6 hours of play per day. I know, you guys are saying "Wow....No life....." Your right, but all my friends are in college this year and are too busy to hang out so UrT is basically all I do anymore other than highschool and homework.

| lol. I rage the most when i play ctf. Sometimes it's hard to find semi-decent ctf servers where. It's frustrating when your team is noob because there's a lot less luck in ctf. Do you /kill yourself when your team is mostly dead you're low on health? Normally if I take some damage i'll try to make my way back and defend until I am killed off. I had someone from some clan a while back emoquit because i kept killing myself in 2v2 ctf. | |
